Under the mythic moniker Ulaan Khol, psychedelic figure Steven R. Smith finds some sort of middle ground between the proggy excesses of the 1970s and the searching minimalism of today’s extreme noise makers. One of the 10 tracks on the newly released I, all untitled (naturally — for what is psychedelia if not a plumbing of unknowable depths?), is available for free download. It’s just over five minutes of roiling guitar, dense with the crackle of overcharged electricity (MP3).
